For finned punch press dies, maintenance is more important than repair. The more frequently a die is repaired, the shorter its lifespan; conversely, the better the die is maintained, the longer its lifespan.
Die maintenance mainly consists of three points:
1. Daily Die Maintenance: Lubricating various moving parts such as ejector pins, slides, guide pillars, and guide bushings; cleaning the die surface; and ensuring proper water drainage. This requires daily maintenance during die production.
2. Periodic Maintenance: In addition to daily maintenance, periodic maintenance includes cleaning venting channels, adding vents to trapped or burnt areas, and repairing damaged or worn parts.
3. Appearance Maintenance: Applying paint to the outside of the die blank to prevent rust. When removing the die, both the fixed and moving dies should be coated with anti-rust oil. When storing the die, it should be tightly closed to prevent dust from entering the cavity.
